Sainsbury’s was the first major British supermarket to open a bank, commencing trading in February 1997. In 2014, J Sainsbury plc bought the Lloyds Banking Group share and the bank became 100% owned by Sainsbury’s.
Sainsbury’s Bank offers a range of financial products including credit cards, savings, loans and car, home, pet, travel and life insurance. The Bank also has over 200 Travel Money Bureaux at Sainsbury’s stores across the UK and a large, free to use ATM estate.
The Bank acquired Argos Financial Services in 2016, adding the Argos Store Card and Monthly Payment Plan, as well as warranties to the product suite.
