SFE Young Professionals Network committee vacancies

The YP network are seeking individuals to fill both the Workstream Lead and Workstream Contributor roles ahead of what will be a busy year for the network as they support SFE on achieving its broader strategic priorities.

We are looking for 3 individuals to fill the positions of Workstream Lead 

The workstream lead role is a fantastic opportunity for members of the committee to lead a small team and drive change in a specific area of passion. In addition to driving change and making a difference to professionals in the sector, this role provides a range of development opportunities including public speaking and presenting, events co-ordination and planning. Committee members benefit from an increased industry network, exposure to senior industry leaders and have access to mentorship and support. The workstream lead is a new role intended to provide more leadership opportunities on the committee and increase communication across workstreams, so there will be opportunities to help shape this role. 

Out of our four committee workstreams, we are looking for a workstream lead for the following (please specify which of these are you most interested in as part of your application)  

  • Changing Customer Needs – we are supporting members to understand the ever changing customer needs as well as equipping our members with resilience/ change skills and exemplifying good practice in the industry throughout the ‘Let’s have a Blether’ podcast 

  • Skills & Inclusion – we use our member base to share and develop skills, we aim to inspire and provide a voice for the next generation and support the Unified School’s Programme  

  •  Mental Health – Following our 2021 Mental Health report, we have a strategy focused on 4 workstreams aiming to reduce stigma and provide good practice and tips around mental health in our industry. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Co-ordination of meetings and planning for the workstream 

  • Work with workstream members to deliver against the workstream goals  

  • Provide updates on workstream plans and progress, reporting to the committee chair and liaising with the SFE Events management team  

  • Represent the committee as a speaker/ host at events and as an attendee  

Requirements: 

  • Enthusiasm and energy; passion for SFE Young Professional’s aims and objectives 

  • Capacity to commit to and support planning for quarterly committee meetings and assisting in events  

  • Proactive, engaged and eager to build network outside their own organisation 

Capacity required 

  • The SFE YP committee is a voluntary position, and there is an appreciation for fluctuation in capacity and commitment. However, to ensure success, a workstream lead would be expected to attend: Quarterly 90-minute committee meetings, workstream specific calls and regular updates with the chair. 


We are also looking to fill the position of multiple Workstream Contributors and Committee Members 

SFE YP committee members represent their firm on the committee and act as a workstream contributor. In addition to driving change and making a difference to professionals in the sector, this role provides a range of development opportunities including public speaking and presenting, events co-ordination and planning. Committee members benefit from an increased industry network, exposure to senior industry leaders and have access to mentorship and support. 

Out of our four committee workstreams, we are looking for a workstream contributor for the following (please specify which of these are you most interested in as part of your application)  

  • Changing Customer Needs – we are supporting members to understand the ever changing customer needs as well as equipping our members with resilience/ change skills and exemplifying good practice in the industry throughout the ‘Let’s have a Blether’ podcast 

  • Climate and Journey to Net Zero – we aim to provide opportunities to drive change in our industry and communities, make climate accessible for everyone, and build YP awareness, education and empowerment 

  •  Mental Health – Following our 2021 Mental Health report, we have a strategy focused on 4 workstreams aiming to reduce stigma and provide good practice and tips around mental health in our industry. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Leading projects, running events, pitching in to make the SFE Young Professionals a success 

  • Sharing new ideas, having a positive attitude to change, and trying new things 

  • Opportunities to update our executive sponsors on progress and new ideas 

  • Additional opportunity to lead a strategic workstream, liaising directly with SFE board lead for this workstream
