Vacancy opens for SFE Young Professionals Chair
The Chairperson is accountable for setting the network's strategy and structure and acts as the key liaison between the network and the Scottish Financial Enterprise leadership team. The Chairperson is supported by a deputy and a YP leadership team, and collaborates with workstream leads and the committee, to deliver success for the network whilst supporting the development of our members.
In addition to driving change and making a difference to young professionals in the sector, this role will provide a range of development opportunities for the successful candidate including shaping strategy, leading a team, public speaking and presenting to senior stakeholders. Committee members, including the Chair, benefit from an increased industry network, exposure to senior industry leaders and have access to mentorship and support.
The current SFE YP workstreams are aligned to the wider SFE strategy, as well as feedback from members, and are: Changing Customer Needs, Climate Change & Journey to Net Nero, Mental Health & Wellbeing, and Skills & Inclusion.
Responsibilities:
Shape and drive the SFE YP strategy & structure and lead the committee on delivery, providing 121 or group support/coaching where required.
Chair the SFE Young Professionals steering group meetings and represent the network to senior stakeholders (e.g., 121s with Sandy Begbie, SFE CEO) and forums (i.e. bi-monthly SFE board).
Work effectively with the SFE team to ensure alignment of core activities with the wider SFE and sector strategy.
Represent the committee as a speaker/host at SFE YP events.
Co-ordinate SFE Young Professionals and their work with partner groups to deliver impactful and engaging events and opportunities to the network.
Requirements:
Enthusiasm and energy, in particular: a passion for SFE YP’s aims and objectives.
An ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders, and to work collaboratively with the SFE team and the wider industry.
An ability to lead from within, managing and supporting others to work towards group goals at peer level.
Capacity to commit to and support planning for half yearly committee meetings, quarterly strategy sessions and assisting in events as required.
Proactive, engaged and eager to build a network outside of their own organisation.
Strong time management and organisational skills, demonstrating an ability to manage extracurricular work and deadlines alongside BAU work.
Capacity required:
The SFE YP committee is a voluntary position, and it is appreciated that there may be some fluctuations in our volunteers capacity and commitment. However, to ensure success, the Chair would be expected to attend:
Monthly 1:1s with senior SFE leadership.
SFE forums as required, as a representative of the YP network.
Half-yearly 2-hour SFE YP committee meetings.
Quarterly strategy sessions with workstream leads.
Fortnightly 45 minute leadership calls with the YP leads and SFE board sponsor.
Ad hoc events e.g., SFE YP events or specific project/events planning.
The expected tenure as Chair is two calendar years from commencement. As part of the application process, you will be asked to evidence support/understanding from your day job line manager of the above commitments.
The Chairperson may delegate to their deputy and to the YP leadership team where applicable; it is not recommended that the Chairperson sits within a workstream as well.
To apply, please email your CV and a short cover letter to Theo Prendergast at tprendergast@sfe.org.uk. Applications close on 15 November.
