Our year in numbers | Sandy Begbie CBE, CEO, SFE

It’s been great to see so many new and familiar faces in the last few weeks as we wind down before festivities commence. I’d like to say a big thanks to everyone who has braved the icy coldness to come and see us at our winter receptions and other events.

It’s been a busy month to round off an exceptional year for the team at SFE. It’s difficult to put into words how much we have accomplished in 2022, so I thought I’d give you some numbers instead!

In 2022 we have gained over 2000 new social media followers across all our platforms, with record engagement on Linkedin. We’ve published 11 Op-eds in media publications like Scottish Business Insider, The Scotsman and The Press and Journal, helping to shape the public policy debate in Scotland on key issues like economic growth, productivity, skills and net zero.

We’ve hosted 68 events with people and businesses from across our membership, providing more face-to-face networking opportunities and helping to drive collaboration on our strategic priorities.

We’ve amplified member voices with 26 thought leadership blogs covering different industry issues from inward investment to the bereavement process, and including 14 Spotlight on transferable skills blogs, helping to profile employees and shine a line on the opportunities to upskill or reskill into different financial services roles.

We launched our new visual identity and website, designed to better showcase the work that we do as a sector in Scotland, the rest of the UK and around the world, helping us achieve a 300% increase in web traffic. Our new member platform has registered over 2000 users, helping us to manage events, and acting as a new platform for networking and communications, encouraging collaboration across the sector.

Our Young Professionals Network has reached 1093 members, held 19 events, 13 blogs and 8 videos, supporting the development of its members, providing networking opportunities, and raising awareness about the issues impacting young people in the industry.

We held our first full scale awards ceremony since 2019, bringing together over 600 people to celebrate seven awards – and falling victim to just one power cut! We’ve partnered with TheCityUK for their annual conference, welcoming 200 people to Edinburgh to hear from one First Minister, one Scottish Labour leader and one Treasury minister about the importance of our industry to the future of the Scottish and UK economies.

And the two numbers we are perhaps most proud of: we’ve finished the year with a record 102 members and achieved a net promoter score of +22 in our member satisfaction survey, demonstrating the value of our enhanced proposition for members and using your insights to continue guiding us in the right direction.

We are excited to work with our members to break even more records next year. Wishing our members, partners and stakeholders a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. We look forward to seeing you in 2023.
