We are now accepting applications for the role of SFE Young Professionals Chair

Role Description

The Chairperson is accountable for setting the network's strategy and structure and acts as the key liaison between the network and the Scottish Financial Enterprise leadership team. The chairperson is supported by the deputies and works with other committee leads to deliver both team and individual success whilst supporting the development and engagement of the committee and its members. In addition to driving change and making a difference to professionals in the sector, this role provides a range of development opportunities including strategy setting, leading a team, public speaking and presenting to senior stakeholders. Committee members benefit from an increased industry network, exposure to senior industry leaders and have access to mentorship and support. The current SFE YP workstreams, aligned to the SFE strategy and feedback from members are: Changing Customer Needs, Climate, Mental Health and Skills & Inclusion.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain the SFE YP strategy & structure and support the committee to have clarity and deliver on this, providing 121 or group support/ coaching where required

  • Chair the SFE Young Professionals Steering Group meetings and represent the network to Senior stakeholders (i.e. 121s with Sandy Begbie, SFE CEO) and forums (i.e. bi-monthly SFE board)

  • Represent the committee as a speaker/ host at SFE YP events and as an attendee

  • Co-ordinate SFE Young Professionals and their work with partner groups to deliver impactful and engaging events and opportunities to the network

Requirements:

  • Enthusiasm and energy; passion for SFE Young Professional’s aims and objectives

  • Capacity to commit to and support planning for quarterly committee meetings and assisting in events

  • Proactive, engaged and eager to build network outside their own organisation

Capacity required

The SFE YP committee is a voluntary position, and there is an appreciation for fluctuation in capacity and commitment. However, to ensure success, the chair would be expected to attend:

  • 121s with senior SFE leaders, SFE forums as a representative of the YP network

  • Quarterly 90 minute SFE YP committee meetings

  • Fortnightly 30 minute leadership calls with the YP leads and SFE board sponsor

  • Adhoc events: i.e. SFE YP events or specific project/ events planning

The chairperson must delegate to deputies where relevant and it is not recommended that the chairperson sits within a workstream as well.
